The Philosophy

Design as
a Form of Care

"The finest rooms don't announce themselves — they simply make you feel at home the moment you enter."

With over 14 years of practice, Susanne approaches every project as a collaboration. She listens before she designs — understanding how a family moves through a home, what they value, and what they've never found elsewhere.

The studio works in a restrained palette of natural materials: warm limestones, pale European oaks, handwoven textiles, and aged metals. Not because they are fashionable, but because they age beautifully and never tire.

Each project ends with a space that feels inevitable — as if it could not have been any other way.

Principal Designer
& Studio Founder

Susanne Ellman founded her Los Angeles-based studio in 2011 after a decade working with leading firms in New York and London. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Her work is guided by a belief that exceptional design is not about style — it is about clarity. Every element in a space should have a reason to be there, and together they should tell a story that belongs only to the people who live within it.

Susanne has been recognised by Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, and the American Society of Interior Designers. She lectures annually at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and mentors emerging designers through the Interior Design Society.

"I am drawn to restraint. Not minimalism for its own sake, but the discipline of knowing when a room is finished."

The studio operates with a small, senior team — by design. Susanne is present on every project, from the initial site visit to the final installation, ensuring that the integrity of the vision is maintained throughout.
